How Zhan Zhuang Improves Your Taiji

How Zhan Zhuang Improves Your Taiji

As recently discussed in this post, Zhan Zhuang is an important pillar in internal martial arts. But what skills does Zhan Zhuang actually bring to Taiji practitioners? We want to go into that today.

Feel and recognize Yin and Yang

Through the continuous practice of Zhan Zhuang, we become aware of areas of tension. Like others train for more strength, we train Zhan Zhuang on the way of relaxation. Constant standing means no change for body and mind, but something will change constantly in this exercise with untrained students. It is about accepting situations and perceiving the state. When the body is calm and controlled, the focus should be on the mind next, otherwise, the mind will always find something to deal with. In the state of absolute calmness, we will really experience the states of Yin and Yang. Therefore, a connection to the extreme can be made next.

Yin and Yang in Taijiquan

In Taiji, yin and yang move, it is like the balance is held in two glasses so that none of them drips over. The movement out of balance is the direction to harmony. When someone can keep a close focus on Yin and Yang, the body and mind are in control of the movement. Taiji is thus controlled at the extremes and harmonized therefrom, which is an important basic understanding for self-cultivation.

How our Taiji seminar went!

How our Taiji seminar went!

Hello everybody! Our seminar we had this weekend on 24-25th August is over and we did a lot of amazing things for you to share.

Starting with Qi Gong

Our seminar started on a beautiful Sunday with our usual Qi Gong routine! It was the five animals Qi Gong and Master Ziji took his time and explained the reason why we do Qi Gong and what Qi Gong changes within our bodies.

The Qi Gong introduction and practice is available in our online class:

Tai Ji fundamentals

After the Qi Gong we introduced the first Tai Ji fundamentals, starting with Tai Ji Cloud Hands.

The Tai Ji Cloud Hands give us an understanding of the basic coordination and fundamentals of how Tai Ji works in a practical and logical understanding.

If you like to read more about this topic you can read more about it in our complete guide:

No Placebo

We did not give anybody the chance to make his own ideas, we are a school of practical understanding and so we tested out our newly learned things in partner exercises and applications – it was carefully tested if the student really understood what he is doing.

Corrections and Open Feedback

There were some positions that were critical to understanding. We find it important that every student can look at the details of what the movement is about and point out what is wrong or possible for improvement. The opportunity to judge someone’s practice will sharpen one’s own impression when watching himself through the mirror or practice self-reflection through his own videos.

Tai Ji is living!

What we have chosen to learn should now be cultivated by everybody. We have given our students the ability to understand what Tai Ji is in a logical and comprehensive way. The focus of the seminar to maintain a healthy Tai Ji practice in private life when the master is not around. The self-sustaining cycle of life experience of what Tai Ji can give you is important to use this knowledge every day. Once in awhile corrections from the master are important and also his instructions to widen your horizon, but for now, everybody is self-responsible to keep the treasure of Tai Ji self-cultivation.

We plan to do many more seminars in future, the plans for next year will be provided during the end of October and you are welcome to participate and explore the knowledge of Wu Dang San Feng Pai together.

Introduction

The life improvements of the Wudang San Feng methods can help everybody in all ages to personally develop in self-understanding oneself physically and mentally. While nature is self-explaining and rather simple, the problems people have in their everyday-lives are often hard to overcome. The understanding of the Dao is important for people who follow nature, and so this workshop aims to develop the method and understanding of Daoism.

Content

Taiji is the principle of Yin and Yang and originates from the Daoist understanding of nature. Grandmaster Yuan Xiu Gang will explain techniques and methods and how to practically use them.

Daodejing refers to the wisdom of Laozi and the foundation of Daoist understanding. The practice is the most important part of our Daoist philosophy, and Grandmaster Yuan Xiu Gang is aiming to make specific aspects in the Daodejing clear for our western understanding.

The professional Tai Chi School in Vienna

The professional Tai Chi School in Vienna

Recognizing and using Tai Chi in a practical sense takes years. In order to achieve this, the method must be the right one. So if you look deeper into the matter, the following things are noticeable:

What “Hobby Schools” Can Never Offer

Tai Chi is nested in the movement and never seen from outside as what it is. The European misconception that a Tai Chi lesson is a form of relaxing entertainment is thanks to the marketing schools in Europe.

Relaxation must be learned because our everyday life consists of exhausting activities and we were conditioned to maximize performance. The consequences are burnout and many other health problems. But this is the content that you read on many other websites of Tai Chi schools as well because it is the absolute mainstream that is perceived by consumerism.

The Facts

Self-recognition is key to controlling relaxation, allowing you to relax in a controlled manner, saving strength and energy and preventing further tension. Taiji practitioners in our academy learn to treat themselves with Taiji preventively. It does not need to be practiced for 20 years to feel the effect, it is much more important to be able to understand the method and apply it yourself. Therefore, it needs a “master” – someone who masters what is on the many websites. Although many say the lesson was great, after a month at the latest, really dramatic changes in body and mind should be noticed. Taiji is a way of life of self-perception and self-recognition, not only can Taiji be used in every day-to-day life but it also works for a self in every situation. We have to cope with all situations in everyday life, and the shower of water splashing sound and incense sticks is just that kind of entertainment program that distracts from the very self and thus the Taiji principles. Taiji is trained in every situation and needs to be controlled in a natural way regardless of time and space.

Learn Tai Chi Properly

I am often told that posture and breathing are neglected in other schools. Without these two components, however, Taiji can never be perceived. It is surprising that a practice is swept under the table. Taiji is not an easy thing, but it is clear that not everyone is good at playing the piano, in Taiji, most people seem to agree that they can do Taiji well. Just like playing the piano, there is a lot of practice and effort behind it to develop appropriate skills that will benefit you all your life.
